The Gateway to the District Downtown – Recent Art installation is recognized as One of Best Designs in the Region

For as long as humans have existed, art has been something that has kept us together promoting unity, diversity, as well as individualism and originality across communities.

Our city is no different being the home of The Gateway Plaza Sculpture!

This April, the Gateway Sculpture was selected as a judges pick for the St. Louis AIGA Design Show who recognized the installation as one of the best designs in the region.

Located at the intersection of Broadway & Providence on city-owned land, the Gateway Sculpture plaza is part of The District’s master plan to bring public art downtown. This is one of the first art installations of it’s size, The District has brought to downtown Columbia.

With the stainless-steel letters standing at 5-feet-tall and the O in the installation being an 8-feet-tall globe, the beloved structure gives everyone another reason to visit, shop and selfie in The District, Downtown Columbia!

The Gateway Sculpture was created by local artist, Emmett Russell, who specifically made this piece of artwork for the heart of Columbia. The planning process for the sculpture lasted eight years and was revealed November 2021.

This Summer, as you plan your next visit to The District, we encourage everyone to enjoy Gateway Sculpture art installation. It’s good to be here!
